CARD is currently seeking a qualified and experienced social media monitoring officer.
About the Role
This is an opportunity to join CARD, one of the most vibrant human rights organizations in Ethiopia, and play a vital role in understanding the Ethiopian social media landscape to promote human rights and good governance. You will be responsible for monitoring online conversations in Afaan Oromoo and identifying trends in disinformation and sensitive topics,and contributing to the development of the bi-weekly Social Media Conversation Sensitivity Report (SMCSR).
Responsibilities
- Monitor social media platforms (in English and Afaan Oromoo) for conversations relevant to Ethiopian politics and social issues.
- Identify and analyze trends in disinformation, hate speech, and inflammatory content.
- Prepare reports summarizing key findings and insights for the SMCSR.
- Stay updated on current events in Ethiopia and the evolving online landscape.
- Conduct research and identify emerging issues of concern.
- Work collaboratively with the SMCSR team to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the reports.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Political Science, Journalism & Communications, or a relevant social science field (females highly encouraged to apply).
- Minimum one year of experience in the above fields.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify patterns and trends in online data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Afaan Oromoo.
- Proficiency in social media monitoring tools is a plus.
- A keen interest in human rights, democracy, Ethiopian sociopolitical developments.
