Job Description

Background:

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) operates in five regions of Ethiopia, providing emergency relief to refugees and internally displaced individuals. The NRC Assosa Operation works in three refugee camps in the Assosa Zone and IDP/Returnee sites, assisting those affected by displacement through services in Food Security & Livelihoods, Education, Shelter, WASH, and Information Counselling & Legal Assistance (ICLA).

Roles & Responsibilities

The Logistics Intern will assist in the day-to-day implementation of support functions’ responsibilities.

Generic Responsibilities

  • Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
  • Support procurement functions from RFQ collection to the receipt of goods and services.
  • Assist in logistics functions, including fleet management and warehouse operations.
  • Ensure proper filing of documents.
  • Implement action plans for the delegated Logistics and Procurement portfolio.
  • Monitor progress in procurements and other logistics tasks daily.
  • Ensure compliance with NRC policies and guidelines.
  • Promote ideas for technical improvements.
  • Prepare periodic progress reports and other necessary documents.
  • Conduct liaison activities as instructed by the supervisor.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the supplier database at the area office.
  • Ensure adherence to NRC procurement policies, ensuring transparency and proper documentation.
  • Use Agresso to receive, register, and prepare requisitions, check Purchase Requisitions for correctness, raise RFQs, and update status reports.
  • Liaise with suppliers for the prompt and accurate delivery of goods, services, and equipment.
  • Prepare monthly procurement reports for submission to the line manager.
  • Support procurement process activities at the area office, with guidance from the logistics officer.
  • Coordinate with stores to collect relevant documentation and organize documents according to the NRC procurement checklist.
  • Assist in resource administration to ensure deliverables are achieved within set budgets, timelines, and standards.

Qualifications and Competences

Generic Professional Competencies:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Accounting, or related fields.

No prior work experience required.

Fluent in oral and written English, Amharic, and an additional local language.

Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Achievement of set benchmarks and objectives.

Strong communication skills (vertically and horizontally).

Context/Specific Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

Proficient in common Microsoft Windows and Office applications.

Ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines.

Behavioral Competencies:

Working effectively with people.

Planning and delivering results.

Communicating with impact and respect.

Handling insecure environments.
