A2SV (Africa to Silicon Valley) is a non-profit tech academy and incubator dedicated to bridging the gap between African tech talent and global technology opportunities. Based in California, A2SV provides free, high-impact software engineering education and mentorship to high-potential university students across Africa. Our programs aim to transform these students into proficient software engineers and leaders, ready to drive innovation and economic growth within their communities. By integrating rigorous academic training with real-world project incubation, A2SV empowers students to tackle pressing societal challenges through technology, building a new generation of African tech innovators.
We’re currently managing multiple projects and are actively seeking a skilled UI/UX designer to join us full-time and work with us in person, contributing to the creation of impactful digital solutions.
Role Description
As a full-time UI/UX Designer at A2SV, you will play a pivotal role in our organization, contributing to a variety of projects. Your responsibilities will include building comprehensive UI/UX experiences from initial research to the creation of professional prototypes for multiple projects. Additionally, you will develop and maintain a cohesive design system for assigned projects, ensuring consistency and efficiency in our visual identity. Beyond project work, you will support A2SV UI/UX students by implementing UI/UX for assigned projects and offering guidance throughout their learning journey. Your work will impact our projects and contribute to the growth of the next generation of UI/UX designers in the A2SV community.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
As a full-time UI/UX Designer at A2SV, your multifaceted role includes:
- User-Centric Design: Create intuitive, visually appealing user interfaces.
- Educational Impact: Mentor UI/UX students, contribute to their learning, and be flexible to participate in events, even if it requires weekends.
- Design System: Develop and maintain a cohesive design system for assigned projects.
- Wireframing and Prototyping: Develop wireframes, prototypes, and mockups.
- Collaboration: Work with developers to ensure technical feasibility of designs.
Your Qualifications (Requirement)
- Experience: 2+ years in UI/UX design.
- Design Principles: Strong grasp of UI/UX fundamentals.
- Communication: Excellent skills in communication and teamwork.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in Figma for prototyping and animating detailed interactions, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Portfolio: A portfolio showcasing relevant work.
- Adaptability: Flexible to adapting project changes and working on multiple projects simultaneously.
Bonus
You will have advantages if you have skills on:
- 3D Animation and Design Tools: Spline, Rive.app, Blender, Adobe After Effects
- Illustration and Graphic Design Tools: Adobe tools, especially Adobe Illustrator
- Social Media and Collaborative Design Tool: Canva
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
